Longtime ownership project – Chelsea New sponsor praise Todd Boehly vision
Charlie Ebersol is the CEO of Chelsea’s new shirt sponsor Infinite Athlete, and he’s today been quoted with all sorts of interesting insight about our ownership, in particular Todd Boehly. He compared the strategy in place at Chelsea with what happened when Boehly took over baseball team the LA Dodgers in 2012.
“Take when Todd bought the Los Angeles Dodgers in professional baseball in 2012,” Ebersol explained in quotes picked up in the Sun.
“The Dodgers had atrophied to the point of not being able to do anything.
“Now they’re perennial playoff contenders. They’re constantly in the conversation for the World Series.
“He’s not looking at three, six, nine-month increments at Chelsea, he’s looking at decades of ownership.
“I’ve always appreciated that about him.”
It’s all very positive, and just what you want to hear as a Chelsea fan.
But let’s be realistic about this. Ebersol has just signed a vast sponsorship deal with Chelsea, and it’s one that includes more than just putting his company name on our shirts.
He’s also getting tied up in deals related to our sports science department and all sorts of things beyond that. He’s hoping for a very long term relationship with the club, even once the Infinite Athlete logos are no longer on our shirts.
So praising Boehly is the only sensible thing to do, whether he believes it or not.
