Chelsea winger Cole Palmer back at Chelsea after international injury
Chelsea winger Cole Palmer has been sent back to the club after suffering a dead leg on international duty.
His England U21 coach Lee Carsley explained that their policy was to send players back to their clubs if they were ever in danger of jeopardising their chances of playing in the next club game.
“We could’ve kept Cole here another day and see how it was, but we didn’t think it was right,” Carsley said.
“I think Cole would be fine [to face Ukraine] but we don’t take any chances with any of the players. If there’s a slight doubt that they’re going to miss a game at the weekend, we get them back to the clubs as quickly as we can.”
Palmer played in the thrashing of Serbia on Thursday, where he really impressed, but won’t be there for the Ukraine game tomorrow.
It sounds very unlikely that he misses even our game next weekend against Arsenal, he just needs a little time to let the bruise heal. That’s great news, as not only was he playing well, he also was providing a profile of player that we had really been lacking before.
