Latest update revealed how 21-year-old Chelsea player is now officially one of the most valuable players in the Premier League
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo is now one of the most valuable players in the Premier League following his move from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.
Transfermarkt recently updated their market values for footballers in the English top flight and Moises Caicedo‘s is now €90m, which is around £78m.
It puts him in the top 10 most valuable players in the Premier League on their site, with only Rodri, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland ranking above him.
Chelsea, of course, actually paid £115m to sign Caicedo from Brighton, so the above suggests that they overpaid for him.
But after losing the likes of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic in the summer, they needed to buy a new midfielder and the 21-year-old is one of the best in the country.
One of the best midfielders in the Premier League
Last season, Caicedo made an impressive 100 tackles in English football’s top division, more than any other player bar Fulham’s Joao Palhinha, who recorded 147 (FBref).
With Kante going, it is not a surprise that Chelsea identified Caicedo as someone who they wanted to bring in and were prepared to pay so much to acquire his signature.
Is Caicedo worth £78m, £115m or anything in between? Probably not. The Ecuador international is still quite young and has not been playing at a high level for very long.
However, Chelsea needed a midfielder like him and given the fact that he is young, there is obviously the possibility of the former Brighton man blossoming into an even better player, perhaps one worth the amount of money the Blues paid for his services.
