Reason Mauricio Pochettino offers challenge to Raheem Sterling moving forward
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has offered a challenge to his in-form winger Raheem Sterling moving forward.
Sterling has really stepped up his game this season and has been Chelsea’s biggest attacking threat. He started the season very well, dropped off slightly as Chelsea’s results suffered, and then he came back with a bang on Saturday being heavily involved in all four of Chelsea’s goals that saw them thrash Burnley 4-1 in the Premier League.
When Sterling is on it there aren’t many better wingers around, but it’s always been about consistency with him, or more so a lack of it.
It is that inconsistency that saw him lose his regular spot in the England squad under Gareth Southgate, missing out once again on the latest squad.
Pochettino has challenged Sterling to continue his good form enough to be recalled into the England squad this season, according to Ben Jacobs.
Writing in his latest exclusive and extensive Chelsea FC column for SPTC today, Jacobs said:
“Raheem Sterling is currently back to his best. He was sensational against Burnley and has probably been Chelsea’s biggest threat this season. Sterling knows strong Chelsea form is the only thing that will force him back into the England reckoning for Euro 2024. Mauricio Pochettino has challenged him to get back in the squad and Sterling looks re-energised having changed his diet over the summer and kind of fallen back in love with football as well.”
