Chelsea in a surprise move “offered” first team player to Genoa as they close in on replacement

After a long period of nothing – things are now moving very fast in terms of transfers at Chelsea it seems.

The Athletic have just reported that we’re in talks with Villareal over signing their goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen for a sum “between €20m and €25m.”

That would add him to the two stoppers we signed a year ago, creating quite the backlog. No wonder then that it seems we’re trying to shift one already. Ben Jacobs yesterday reported in his column for GiveMeSport that the man who had the number one shirt for the back half of last season could already be on his way out.

Jacobs claims that Djordje Petrovic was “recently offered to Genoa” as the Blues look to shake up their roster at the back. Genoa however have “no desire to loan Petrovic” as they seek to replace Josep Martinez, who they in turn sold to Inter this summer. We’re sure something can be agreed – perhaps a loan with an option to buy would please all parties and make it financially viable all around?

Rutheless Chelsea look to upgrade in problem position if possible

It would be quite the unceremonious dumping for the Serbia international who did well after coming into the team to replace the injured Robert Sanchez at Christmastime.

It’s true that most fans aren’t convinced by him as a long term option, but it would still be a pretty brutal discarding of a player who didn’t let us down in a major way. Still, if Jorgensen is an upgrade on Petrovic and Sanchez, there’s no reason to be sentimental about it. We’re not sure what kind of fee we’d get for Petrovic, but it would likely be pretty close to what we’re paying Villareal for Jorgensen.
