💔 Alisson Heartbroken as He’s Forced to Miss Diogo Jota’s Funeral — Emotional Tribute to a Fallen Brother

💔 Diogo Jota’s funeral is set for Saturday, just days after the Liverpool star and his brother tragically lost their lives in a fatal car crash on Thursday.

Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has shared the heartbreaking reason he won’t be present at Diogo Jota’s funeral on Saturday morning.

Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically lost their lives in a fatal car crash in Zamora, Spain, during the early hours of Thursday.

According to initial police reports, their vehicle suffered a tyre blowout while attempting to overtake another car, veered off the road, and burst into flames.

Eyewitnesses who dialed emergency services said the car was “completely engulfed by fire.”

Spanish authorities later confirmed the identities of the two victims as Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

Tributes quickly poured in from across the football world, with Liverpool manager Arne Slot, captain Virgil van Dijk, and star forward Mohamed Salah all posting emotional messages to honour their fallen teammate.

Liverpool have officially retired Diogo Jota’s iconic No. 20 jersey, while also opening both a physical and online book of condolence for fans to leave heartfelt messages — either at Anfield or from anywhere in the world.

The funeral for the Portugal international will be held on Saturday morning in his hometown of Gondomar.

In Portugal, it’s customary for funerals — including the wake — to take place within 48 hours of a person’s passing.

It remains uncertain how many Liverpool players or staff, if any, will be present at the ceremony.

Alisson, who shared all five of Jota’s seasons at Liverpool and built a close bond with him, expressed in an emotional tribute that he sadly won’t be able to “say goodbye” in person this morning.

Alongside a touching black-and-white photo of both families together, Alisson shared an emotional message on Instagram.

“Once again, an ocean keeps me from saying goodbye to someone I love,” he wrote. “But I find comfort knowing my teammates will be there to represent me.

To you, my friend Rute Cardoso [Jota’s wife], please remember — you’ll never walk alone. We’ll be by your side as soon as we can.”

The Liverpool goalkeeper also posted a passage from the Bible — Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NKJV) — and added:

“In moments like this, all we can do is bow before God’s sovereignty and seek His grace and strength to carry on.

I’ll forever remember Diogo as a true friend, a devoted father, and a loving husband.”
