Liverpool Set to Ramp Up Centre-Back Hunt – Fresh Talks for Marc Guehi Incoming
Liverpool are ready to intensify their pursuit of a new centre-back this summer but won’t allow themselves to be held ransom over inflated fees.
While Marc Guehi remains a serious target for sporting director Richard Hughes, the Reds are only expected to push forward if Crystal Palace soften their £50m stance — especially with the defender’s contract winding down to 2026.
Fresh negotiations for the England star are set to begin soon.
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Marc Guehi is still firmly on Liverpool’s radar.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the CaughtOffside columnist revealed that the 24-year-old defender is expected to be involved in a fresh round of transfer talks with the Reds this week.

This development coincides with Liverpool receiving a financial boost from Jarell Quansah’s permanent move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The promising academy graduate underwent his medical on Monday afternoon after the Reds struck a £30 million agreement with the Bundesliga side, which includes a buy-back clause.
When could Liverpool strike a deal with Crystal Palace?
A potential deal will hinge largely on how willing Crystal Palace are to compromise on the financial terms.
It’s understandable that the London club would be reluctant to part ways with one of their top performers — and a current England international — for anything below their valuation. However, with Marc Guehi’s contract set to expire next summer, the risk of losing him for free looms large.
That said, Oliver Glasner’s side might be willing to gamble on keeping him for one more season, especially if they believe he can help secure European football for 2025/26 — and, in turn, boost the funds needed to find a quality replacement.
From Liverpool’s perspective, it’s still unclear what price tag would make Marc Guehi a viable target.
According to Sami Mokbel via BBC Sport, the Reds are hoping Crystal Palace lowers their valuation to around the £30 million mark — roughly what they’ve just earned from the sale of Jarell Quansah. At present, there’s a gap of around £10–15 million between the two clubs’ positions.
While there’s room for negotiation, Liverpool could well decide to walk away and revisit the deal next summer if Palace remain unwilling to drop below £40 million.
