“Gyokeres Eyes Arsenal Move – Fabrizio Romano Delivers Blow to Liverpool’s Transfer Hopes”
“‘Arsenal in Pole Position’ – Fabrizio Romano Drops Major Update on Liverpool Transfer Target”
Fabrizio Romano has provided clarity on Liverpool’s links to Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, confirming that—despite speculation—there are no ongoing negotiations between the club and the Swedish international.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano explained that while Liverpool do hold an interest in Gyokeres, the striker currently favours a move to Arsenal if he leaves Portugal this summer.
Reports of Liverpool’s interest surfaced as the club undergoes a significant squad rebuild following their Premier League title win under new boss Arne Slot. The Reds have already smashed transfer records with the high-profile signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, signalling their intent to compete both domestically and in Europe.
Arsenal, however, appear to be leading the race for Gyokeres. With Darwin Nunez’s future still uncertain, Liverpool may soon need to target a new striker—but it’s unlikely to be the Sporting star, given his preference for the Gunners.
Romano added: “I’m not aware of any ongoing contacts for Gyokeres at this stage. His priority is Arsenal—let’s see how things unfold later in the window.”
With Gyokeres focused on Arsenal, Liverpool may be forced to explore alternative options to bolster their frontline this summer.
At the moment, Arsenal seem to be leading the chase for Viktor Gyokeres, while Liverpool are likely to shift their focus to other striker options.
Gyokeres has been in outstanding form for Sporting CP, so it’s no surprise that several top European clubs are competing to secure his signature.
Manchester United have also been linked with the Swedish forward, who previously worked under their current manager, Ruben Amorim, during his time at the Portuguese club.
