“‘Raging Red!’ – Liverpool Star Explodes Over National Team Snub”
“‘Furious and Fuming!’ – Liverpool Icon Erupts Over National Team Snub”
A Liverpool midfielder has voiced his frustration over being left out of his national squad for their June fixtures.
Alexis Mac Allister, who missed Liverpool’s final two games of the season due to a minor issue, was advised by Arne Slot to rest and fully recover after a demanding season for both club and country. The 26-year-old had been expected to feature in Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia but was omitted by Lionel Scaloni for fitness reasons.
Mac Allister Frustrated by National Team Omission
Despite understanding the rationale behind his exclusion, Mac Allister couldn’t hide his disappointment. Speaking to TyC Sports, he admitted:
“Not being on the squad list frustrates me. It’s something I question every day, but I’ve had some issues this year. It’s not a major injury, just a minor one, but it’s better to rest before it escalates. The World Cup is just around the corner.”
Mac Allister Reflects on a Grueling Season with Liverpool and Argentina
It’s easy to see why the 26-year-old would feel disappointed about missing out on representing Argentina this month. However, Liverpool fans are unlikely to have many complaints about Lionel Scaloni’s decision to rest him.
Mac Allister was Liverpool’s fourth most-utilized player this season, amassing 3,569 minutes across 49 matches. This workload came despite him not starting any of the final four games after the Reds secured the Premier League title in late April. Before then, his availability was only briefly interrupted by a short suspension.
For Argentina, he was equally indispensable, starting six of their eight World Cup qualifiers during the 2024/25 campaign and even scoring against Brazil in March. His demanding schedule included four transatlantic trips, underscoring the toll such an intense workload can take.
Scaloni’s decision to leave him out of the games against Chile and Colombia seems logical, especially with Argentina having already secured qualification for next year’s World Cup in North America. These matches offer the Albiceleste manager a chance to evaluate fringe players who might not usually start.
From Liverpool’s perspective, Mac Allister’s break is a blessing. A month of rest and recovery will be invaluable ahead of another challenging season for the Reds, culminating in his participation in the World Cup next summer.
