“Sky Reporter: Florian Wirtz Targets Liverpool Switch That Could Redefine Anfield Hierarchy”

“Sky Reporter: Florian Wirtz Eyes Liverpool Move That Could Shake Up Anfield Favorite”

A trusted journalist has revealed that Florian Wirtz’s potential move to Liverpool might hinge on one specific request that could require a compromise from a current player at Anfield.

The Bayer Leverkusen star has reportedly expressed a strong desire to join the Reds, who have already had two bids rejected by the Bundesliga runners-up. The club is holding out for a fee around £125 million, according to Christian Falk. Liverpool, undeterred, is expected to make another attempt to secure the 22-year-old, and if successful, Wirtz is likely to don the red jersey of the Premier League champions next season.

Wirtz Sets Sights on Liverpool’s Number 10 Shirt

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has highlighted one potential sticking point in the transfer negotiations: Wirtz’s interest in wearing the number 10 shirt at Anfield. This number is currently held by Alexis Mac Allister, while Wirtz’s preferred 17, which he wears for Germany, belongs to Curtis Jones at Liverpool.

Despite this, the request doesn’t appear to be a deal-breaker, as Liverpool remains “very optimistic” about finalizing an agreement with Leverkusen for the talented playmaker.

Wirtz Unlikely to Cause Issues Over Shirt Number

While some players are particularly attached to specific shirt numbers, it’s understandable that Wirtz might prefer to retain the number he has proudly worn at the BayArena.

Fortunately, Bundesliga expert Mark McCambridge has eased concerns among Reds supporters. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he emphasized that the 22-year-old isn’t the type to “act like a diva or throw a tantrum,” indicating that Wirtz is unlikely to create friction over something as minor as his squad number.

If the transfer goes through and Mac Allister retains the No. 10 jersey, what alternatives would be available for the German playmaker?

Wirtz previously donned the No. 27 during his early years with Leverkusen’s first team, a number that has been unoccupied at Liverpool since Darwin Núñez’s move to No. 9 a couple of seasons ago.

Should the Reds successfully secure his signature, it’s safe to assume many fans will be eager to have Wirtz’s name on their kits next season, no matter which number ends up on his back!
