“Rising European Winger Unveils the Real Reason Behind Rejecting Liverpool”

“European Star Winger Reveals Why He Snubbed Liverpool”

Liverpool’s Longstanding Interest in Swedish Prodigy Momodou Sonko

20-year-old Swedish winger Momodou Sonko, now making waves at Belgian Pro League side Gent, has been on Liverpool’s radar for years. The talented youngster had a trial with the Reds back in 2017 but ultimately decided against the move, admitting he felt “too young” at the time.

Despite this, Liverpool’s interest in Sonko hasn’t waned. The winger, wearing the No. 11 shirt, has continued to impress, contributing seven goals and assists across 40 appearances for Gent in all competitions.

Why Momodou Sonko Turned Down Liverpool

Sonko’s Wise Decision and Reflections on Liverpool’s Dominance

Looking back, Momodou Sonko’s choice to stay in Sweden instead of joining Liverpool seems like the right call. At the time, Liverpool was gearing up for an era of dominance under Jurgen Klopp, featuring the likes of legendary winger Sadio Mane. Breaking into such a competitive lineup as a teenager would have been a monumental challenge. Instead, Sonko developed his craft in Sweden before advancing to Belgium’s Pro League—a measured progression that has served him well.

“Honestly, I see it as them already showing interest, so I went to give it a shot,” the Gent winger shared with Expressen.
“I felt I was a bit too young to make the move at the time, but they’ve kept tabs on me since. Developing my game in Sweden first was the right step, and moving when I did felt natural.”

Sonko on Liverpool’s Recent Success

Sonko had nothing but praise for Liverpool’s accomplishments both domestically and internationally, applauding their Premier League dominance and solid performances in the Champions League.

“Absolutely phenomenal! They’ve dominated the Premier League with unmatched superiority,” the 20-year-old remarked.
“They were formidable in the Champions League as well, though their clash with PSG was a tough hurdle. Overall, it’s been an extraordinary season—an outstanding debut for the coaching team too.”

Does Liverpool Need Another Left Winger?

With Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo excelling on the left wing, Liverpool seems well-covered in this area. Both players offer depth and quality, pushing each other to new levels. While Sonko is a promising talent, at 20 years old, he may need more time to refine his skills before competing at the highest level.

Liverpool’s transfer strategy often involves signing players with the potential to elevate the team immediately or in the near future. Sonko might still be a few seasons away from fitting that mold, but with Europe’s top clubs monitoring him, it’s only a matter of time before he takes the next step in his career.
