“Arne Slot fires back at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s provocative tweet this morning.”
“Arne Slot fiercely challenges Trent Alexander-Arnold’s controversial tweet this morning.”
“Today should focus solely on celebrating Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contributions this season, alongside his teammates, in securing Liverpool’s 20th English top-flight title. It’s also a moment to honor the fans who missed the chance to celebrate the 2019/20 title due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures. Discussions about Trent’s possible departure from Liverpool should not overshadow the occasion.”
“It would be misleading to claim that Alexander-Arnold was intentionally targeting his current manager. However, the timing of his tweet on X (formerly Twitter) this morning, captioned ’20 years. Gave it everything,’ certainly raises questions.”

This comes in the wake of Arne Slot’s candid remarks about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s effort in training. Slot openly admitted, “In my opinion, there were certain moments he could do more, to put it mildly,” adding, “I told him he’s a much better defender than people think, but you don’t show it all the time.”
In response, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has leapt to the England international’s defense. Speaking at the LFC Foundation Gala Ball, Klopp told attendees that Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘gave absolutely everything’ during his time at L4, a sentiment that may have inspired Trent’s tweet this morning.
Has Alexander-Arnold truly given everything?
We maintain that the criticism of Trent’s defensive abilities at Liverpool has been largely exaggerated. While he wasn’t flawless defensively, his exceptional skills on the ball consistently outweighed any shortcomings at the back, particularly during Jurgen Klopp’s prime years.
However, Slot’s comments about Trent’s inconsistent effort are hard to ignore. It’s one thing for a player to reach their peak; it’s another to refuse to raise their baseline performance, even for a single season—especially when a rival European club is aggressively pursuing them on a free transfer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly a brilliant footballer and someone we’d have preferred to keep at the club. That said, his claim that he ‘gave it everything’ during his final season at Liverpool warrants closer reflection.
