Romano: Liverpool on the brink of sealing next transfer after Frimpong; target ‘thrilled and ready to join’

Romano: Liverpool ‘closing in’ on next transfer after Frimpong; target ‘eager and excited to join’

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool are making progress in their pursuit of a second defensive signing for the summer transfer window, following Jeremie Frimpong.

Although the Dutch right-back hasn’t been officially announced as a Liverpool player yet, Romano effectively confirmed the move with a “here we go” on Tuesday morning, revealing that the 24-year-old has completed his medical on Merseyside.

Attention is now shifting to the left flank, as Liverpool intensify their efforts to sign Milos Kerkez. Bournemouth, Kerkez’s current club, may consider offers starting at £45m.

Romano: Liverpool ‘Making Progress’ in Talks for Kerkez

On his YouTube channel, Romano provided an update on Liverpool’s negotiations for the Hungarian left-back, indicating promising developments.

He explained:
“Liverpool are advancing in talks for Milos Kerkez, who is eager to join the club. The discussions with the player over contract terms and salary are well-advanced. Kerkez is enthusiastic about the move.”

Romano added:
“Now, it’s down to the clubs to reach an agreement. Bournemouth recently sold Dean Huijsen for £50m, meaning they’re under no financial pressure to sell Kerkez. They’re firm on their valuation, which is why club-to-club negotiations are ongoing.”

Romano emphasized Kerkez’s significance to Liverpool’s transfer plans, stating:
“He’s an important target, and Liverpool are actively working on this deal. It remains to be seen if they can finalize the signing.”

‘Sensational’ Kerkez Could Be a Game-Changing Addition for Liverpool

Milos Kerkez has been so impressive at Bournemouth this season that Gary Neville included him in his Premier League Team of the Season, calling the 21-year-old “sensational” (Sky Sports).

Fabrizio Romano’s latest update indicates that Liverpool are making steady progress in their pursuit of the Hungarian defender. Kerkez’s openness to the move adds momentum to the negotiations, raising optimism for a successful transfer.

With Andy Robertson now 31 and showing signs of decline, and 29-year-old Kostas Tsimikas reportedly on Leeds’ radar (Daily Mail), Liverpool may view this summer as the ideal time to rejuvenate their options at left-back. Securing Kerkez would represent a significant upgrade.

Though the £45m asking price might seem steep, it could be a worthwhile investment. Given his form and age, Kerkez has the potential to secure a starting role at Anfield for the next decade.

If Richard Hughes can finalize this deal following the acquisition of Jeremie Frimpong, it would mark an outstanding start to Liverpool’s summer transfer window.
