“Carragher Breaks Silence: ‘Not for Me’ – A Sharp Rebuke to Liverpool Fans Booing Alexander-Arnold”

“Carragher’s Verdict: ‘Not for Me’ – His Candid Take on Liverpool Fans Booing Alexander-Arnold at Full-Time”

Jamie Carragher expressed his disappointment over the widespread booing of Trent Alexander-Arnold during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday.

The Reds’ vice-captain, who recently announced he would leave his hometown club on a free transfer at the end of the season—likely to join Real Madrid—was met with a mixed reaction from fans. While there were both cheers and boos when his name was announced pre-match, the jeers grew louder when he came on as a substitute in the second half.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Carragher addressed the issue, emphasizing his disapproval of the treatment Alexander-Arnold received from the home crowd.

“That’s the story of the game,” Carragher remarked. “This will be on the back pages tomorrow. I’m surprised at the scale of it—there’s no denying there’s a lot of discontent among Liverpool fans about the situation, which is understandable.

“But for me, no player who wears that red shirt, goes out there to fight for three points, or wins trophies for the club, deserves to be booed. I get the ill-feeling—it’s hard to explain to those outside of Liverpool—but booing one of your own players during a game? That’s not for me.”

Carragher opposes the idea of Alexander-Arnold receiving a special farewell.

While personal abuse directed at Alexander-Arnold is unacceptable, it’s easy to see why Liverpool fans feel betrayed by the 26-year-old’s actions. Despite previously expressing deep loyalty to his boyhood club, his decision to let his contract run out and seemingly prioritize a move to Real Madrid—where his friend Jude Bellingham now plays—has left many supporters feeling let down.

Anfield rarely sees its own players booed on such a scale, making today’s reaction a striking indicator of how far Alexander-Arnold’s standing has fallen among those who once backed him unconditionally.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher noted that while he disapproves of fans booing the player, he also believes Alexander-Arnold doesn’t deserve a special send-off when Liverpool faces Crystal Palace in his likely final appearance for the club.

Given today’s frosty reception, it seems unlikely that Liverpool’s number 66 will receive a warm farewell at Anfield—and it’s clear he’ll need to come to terms with why that is.
