“Revolution: Liverpool-Linked ‘Genius’ Strikes Transformative Deal”
“Breakthrough: Liverpool-Linked ‘Genius’ Secures Game-Changing Agreement”
Liverpool’s pursuit of one of Europe’s most sought-after young stars appears to have hit a dead end.
Last month, CaughtOffside reported that the Reds were eyeing a potential transfer battle with Arsenal and Manchester City for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. However, the 22-year-old now seems set to reject all three clubs in favor of a single destination.
Wirtz Poised to Choose Bayern Munich Over Liverpool
According to SPORT BILD, Wirtz has made it clear to his manager, Xabi Alonso, that Bayern Munich is his preferred destination. The German playmaker’s family is believed to have reached a pivotal agreement with the Bavarian giants, facilitated by close ties between Wirtz’s father, who also serves as his advisor, and Uli Hoeness, a key figure at Bayern.
The report suggests that a transfer to the Bundesliga champions is becoming increasingly likely, with Leverkusen expected to demand at least €150m (£127.5m) for their prized asset.
Liverpool Never Seriously in the Running for Wirtz
Realistically, Liverpool’s chances of landing Florian Wirtz always seemed slim. The astronomical fee required for the playmaker, combined with FSG’s likely strategy of spreading resources across multiple areas of the squad rather than splurging on a single player, made such a move improbable.
Even if Liverpool had shown significant interest, Wirtz’s apparent determination to join Bayern Munich would have made it nearly impossible to sway him. No financial offer, however substantial, was likely to alter his course from Munich to Merseyside.
It’s undoubtedly disappointing for the Reds to miss out on such a prodigious talent. Dubbed a “genius” by Xabi Alonso, Wirtz has already amassed an incredible 120 goal contributions in just 195 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen. Yet, his path seems firmly set on joining Bayern.
Interestingly, there have been surprising reports from Italy claiming Liverpool have made a move for Kevin De Bruyne, who is set to leave Manchester City on a free transfer. While securing the Belgian would be a monumental coup and one of the most significant free transfers in history, such a deal remains speculative.
If true, it signals Liverpool’s ambition under Richard Hughes as the club looks to strengthen during the summer transfer window. While Wirtz appears unattainable, these reports show the Reds are still pursuing elite talent.
