Liverpool Preparing to Offload Kostas Tsimikas in Summer Shake-Up

Liverpool are reportedly set to part ways with left-back Kostas Tsimikas during the upcoming summer transfer window, as revealed by Football Insider. Despite playing a key role in the team’s recent achievements, including their Premier League triumph, the club is looking to overhaul its defensive lineup.

Tsimikas, who arrived from Olympiacos in 2020, has served as a dependable backup to Andy Robertson over the past five seasons. However, with Robertson’s influence waning and the need for a long-term plan, Liverpool have determined that Tsimikas is not suited to step into the primary left-back role.

Greek International Set to Depart Anfield

The 28-year-old Greek international, who has two years left on his contract, is expected to be made available for transfer. As Tsimikas prepares to exit Anfield, Liverpool have already lined up Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as their top target to reinforce the left-back position.

According to football pundit Ian Wright, Liverpool’s interest in Kerkez is so strong that a deal for the Hungarian defender is “probably done” (CaughtOffside). This move signals Liverpool’s intention to secure fresh talent in preparation for the future.

The Greek Defender Thrives in His Anfield Journey

Tsimikas has etched his name into Liverpool’s history with unforgettable contributions, such as his ice-cool penalty to clinch the 2022 FA Cup final against Chelsea and his pivotal assist for Virgil van Dijk’s decisive goal in the 2024 EFL Cup final. With 114 appearances to his name, he has been a key player in driving the club’s success on both domestic and European stages.

Reflecting on his close bond with Mohamed Salah, Tsimikas once said:
“Mo is one of my best mates… He was always there to help me. We are very good friends and spend a lot of time together at the training ground. We have a lot of chats.”

As Liverpool prepares for a defensive overhaul, they will not only need a new left-back but also a right-back, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s announcement that he will leave the club at the end of the season.
