“Sky Reporter Teases Tsimikas Update as Liverpool Prepare for Transfer Window Action”
Since joining Liverpool in 2020, Kostas Tsimikas has never been a regular starter, but despite this, he is poised to earn ‘cult hero’ status among Reds fans for years to come, barring any major change.
The ‘Greek Scouser’ has openly expressed his affection for both the club and the city, cementing his place in Anfield history by scoring the decisive penalty in the 2022 FA Cup final against Chelsea.
However, after five years of playing second fiddle to Andy Robertson, the 28-year-old’s future has come into focus ahead of the summer transfer window, especially with numerous rumors about potential new left-back signings, particularly Milos Kerkez.
Tsimikas ‘likely to be sold’ by Liverpool this summer
Lyall Thomas, Sky Sports News’ news editor, provided an in-depth update on Liverpool’s transfer plans for both arrivals and departures, spanning from the opening of the transfer window in a month to its closure at the end of August.
Thomas reports that the club is looking for a new left-back who will initially ‘share the workload’ with Robertson before eventually replacing him as the first-choice starter.
Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is identified as a key target, with Antonee Robinson and Rayan Ait-Nouri also mentioned as examples of the type of attacking full-backs Liverpool are targeting.
As for Tsimikas, Thomas writes that the club is expected to move him on this summer to make way for a new signing.
If Tsimikas departs this summer, he will leave as a fan favorite.
The Greek international has never started more than 10 Premier League matches in any of his five seasons at Liverpool, and he would need to start three of the final four games to break that streak (according to WhoScored).
Despite occasional criticism of Robertson’s performances in recent months, Tsimikas has been unable to secure a regular starting role under Arne Slot, much like he struggled to displace Robertson under Jurgen Klopp, with both managers clearly seeing him as the backup to the Scotland captain.
Tsimikas, who will turn 29 in the next two weeks, could be forgiven for seeking a new challenge after spending five years on the periphery at Anfield, though he hasn’t publicly called for a move.
If Liverpool were to sign a new left-back this summer – particularly a younger option like Kerkez – it seems likely that Tsimikas could be moved on given the increased competition for a starting spot.
Should that happen, the ‘Greek Scouser’ would leave with the respect and affection of the fans, and the Kop would undoubtedly give him a warm reception on his return to L4 after his departure.
