“Liverpool may have the chance to secure a ‘sensational’ midfield powerhouse echoing the brilliance of Thiago.”

“Liverpool could be presented with an opportunity to land a ‘sensational’ powerhouse reminiscent of Thiago.”

Liverpool might get another chance to sign a midfielder they were previously linked with during his earlier stint in the Premier League.

Back in December 2023, Christian Falk revealed that the Reds had shown ‘concrete interest’ in Joao Palhinha, who was at Fulham before transferring to Bayern Munich last summer.

Now, new reports suggest that Palhinha’s time in Germany could be cut short, opening the door for a potential return to English football.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool is among several Premier League clubs that could be approached about the 29-year-old, as his representatives are reportedly seeking a move back to the league due to limited opportunities at Bayern.

The German champions might be willing to offload Palhinha to focus on securing a new deal for Leon Goretzka. Meanwhile, the former Fulham star is said to favor a return to the Premier League.

Joao Palhinha could be a valuable addition to Liverpool’s squad, offering qualities reminiscent of their 2020 signing of Thiago Alcantara, who also joined from Bayern Munich at the same age and played a similar role.

The Portugal international has already proven his ability to thrive in the Premier League, with Rio Ferdinand calling him ‘sensational’ and Robbie Savage in 2023 labeling him a ‘fantastic fit’ for the Reds. Despite limited game time at Bayern, Palhinha continues to excel in key areas. According to FBref, he ranks in the top 2% for tackles, top 10% for blocks, top 9% for aerial duels won, and top 8% for pass completion among players in his position across Europe’s top five leagues.

However, at nearly 30 and having dealt with some injury issues this season, Palhinha might not immediately displace younger talents like Ryan Gravenberch or Alexis Mac Allister. His potential arrival would likely hinge on the transfer fee and his willingness to embrace a rotational role, stepping in as a reliable backup in defensive midfield when needed.
