Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, Fabrizio Romano claims that Van Dijk’s new Liverpool contract is virtually complete and will be confirmed soon.
The Dutch defender remains a key figure in Arne Slot’s squad, so news of his renewal will come as a major boost for fans—particularly amid concerns over the potential exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Two down, one to go for Liverpool?
With Salah and Van Dijk seemingly committing their futures to the club, the spotlight now turns to Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, signs suggest the England star may be heading for the exit.
Set to become a free agent this summer, Alexander-Arnold is reportedly in advanced talks to join Real Madrid, according to BBC Sport and other sources.
Losing a homegrown talent like Trent Alexander-Arnold at the height of his career will no doubt be a bitter pill for Liverpool fans to swallow. Still, securing the futures of two out of three key contract holdouts isn’t the worst outcome.
Replacing Alexander-Arnold won’t be easy, but retaining a world-class player like Salah saves the club from having to spend a fortune to fill his boots.
And with Van Dijk not only wearing the captain’s armband but also bringing a wealth of experience and leadership, keeping him at Anfield was just as crucial for Liverpool’s long-term ambitions.
