“Journalist reveals Mo Salah’s comical touchline reaction as rare rule comes into play”
“Journalist captures Mo Salah’s amusing touchline moment as rare rule takes effect”
Mo Salah did his best to prevent a Liverpool teammate from making a late appearance at Anfield during their 3-1 victory over Southampton this afternoon!
The Egyptian played a crucial role once again, netting two second-half penalties to bring his season tally to 32 goals, as the Premier League leaders came from behind to secure the win.
Right after Salah converted his second penalty in the 88th minute—sealing the win for Liverpool—LFC made their sixth substitution, bringing on Jarell Quansah for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
That’s one more than the usual five allowed, but due to Jan Bednarek’s first-half head injury, a rarely-seen rule came into play, granting both teams an additional substitution.
Salah’s Hilarious Attempt to Block Liverpool’s Late Substitution
Unaware of the technicality, Mohamed Salah was caught in a comical touchline moment at Anfield. Journalist David Lynch shared the incident on X, noting: “Mohamed Salah has just been desperately trying to stop Liverpool making a sixth substitution so they don’t get docked points. Looked like the referee had to explain to him that they get an extra one due to the earlier head injury.”

With Liverpool’s victory extending their lead to 16 points at the top of the Premier League overnight, Salah can now laugh about his mix-up!
Joking aside, it’s a rule that rarely comes into play, and for good reason—no one wants to see head injuries on the pitch. Hopefully, Jan Bednarek recovers well from his accidental clash with Ryan Manning.
Arne Slot’s lineup decisions also caught some attention, as he made just three changes from the midweek win over PSG. However, after a poor first-half display, the Liverpool boss wasted no time, making the same number of substitutions at halftime to shake things up.
In the end, Slot’s decisions proved justified as Liverpool had to battle hard for the win. The halftime changes made an immediate impact, helping the Premier League leaders turn the game around and overcome yet another tricky situation. And, of course, Salah’s clinical finishing from the penalty spot played a crucial role in securing the victory.
