“Darwin Núñez Erases Liverpool Tweet After Arne Slot’s Brutally Honest Verdict”
“Darwin Núñez Deletes Liverpool Tweet Following Arne Slot’s ‘Disappointed’ Statement”
Liverpool’s display against Aston Villa was an improvement compared to their performances against Everton and Wolves.
However, Arne Slot’s side had to settle for just a single point at Villa Park, with Darwin Núñez wasting a crucial scoring chance after coming on in the second half.
The Uruguayan forward had a clear sight of goal after Dominik Szoboszlai set him up against Emi Martinez, yet he sent his effort soaring well over the bar instead of finding the net.
To say Liverpool boss Arne Slot was frustrated would be an understatement. The 46-year-old was seen holding his head in disbelief before later questioning Núñez’s reaction to the miss.
“I can accept any missed chance, especially from a player who scored two crucial goals against Brentford,” Slot told the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele on X (formerly Twitter).
“What’s harder to accept is his reaction afterward. That wasn’t the usual Darwin, who fights tirelessly. He let the disappointment get the better of him.”
Darwin Núñez has registered 11 goal contributions (six goals, five assists) in 35 appearances across all competitions in the 2024/25 season.
Following Arne Slot’s criticism of his reaction to a missed chance against Aston Villa, Núñez has fired back, seemingly responding to his manager’s comments.
It’s unclear whether our No.9 was directly addressing his manager with a pointed response or simply reacting to the broader criticism he’s faced this season.
His original tweet—now deleted—suggests the latter. However, his decision to soften the message in his follow-up post indicates he may have reconsidered his approach.
Nunez just deleted this tweet..
““Two three weeks ago, Darwin was the best, Darwin gave us the three points, but yesterday I was unlucky enough to miss a goal and I am once again the “worst” and the failure. I don't fall, I get up and I'm never going to give up. I'm going to… pic.twitter.com/AHjuJwr2QZ

In a newly posted tweet, the former Peñarol star shared a message of determination, writing:
“I wasn’t the best three weeks ago, and I’m not the worst now. If I fall, I get up. You’ll never see me give up. I’m going to give it my all until the last day I’m here in Liverpool. Resilience!”
His words suggest a defiant response to recent criticism, emphasizing his commitment to the team despite the setbacks.
Ni fui el mejor hace tres semanas ni soy el peor ahora. Si me caigo, me levanto. Nunca me van a ver bajar los brazos.
Voy a dejar todo hasta el último día que me toque estar acá en Liverpool.
Resiliencia! 💪🏼 pic.twitter.com/cruy7OZO1o

It looks increasingly likely that this will be Darwin Núñez’s final season in the Premier League.
His frustration is understandable—despite ongoing criticism over his consistency in the past two seasons, he still did enough on the pitch to justify his place in the squad. However, unlike Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah, who have adapted well, Núñez seems to be struggling to fit into Arne Slot’s system.
Failing to put in the required work rate in such a crucial game, given Liverpool’s title ambitions, will only accelerate his potential departure, especially with reported Saudi interest.
This isn’t the ending many envisioned—or wanted—at the start of the season, but it’s hard to see the situation improving significantly.
That said, Darwin, we’d love nothing more than for you to prove us wrong!
