“Lankshear’s Tottenham Future at Risk as Rising Star Ellis Lehane Takes Centre Stage”
“Lankshear’s Future in Doubt After Tottenham Sensation Ellis Lehane Steals the Spotlight”
Lankshear may be permitted to depart Tottenham due to Ellis Lehane’s standout performances.
With Dominic Solanke facing six weeks out due to injury [via Football London, 23 January], Spurs are expected to bring in a striker to cover for the England forward [via GiveMeSport, 15 January].
Until a new striker is brought in, Richarlison and Lankshear remain the only options for Ange Postecoglou. As a result, a potential loan move for Lankshear has fallen through.
Tottenham News understands that Lankshear is eager to secure a move during the winter transfer window, but it seems Postecoglou is not in a position to let the 19-year-old leave just yet.
However, Lehane’s outstanding performances for Spurs’ Under-18s could alter the situation.
Could Ellis Lehane be the one to replace Will Lankshear at Tottenham?
Lehane has been in sensational form, scoring six goals in just 10 Under-18 Premier League appearances for Stuart Lewis’ side this season. What’s even more impressive is his recent run of form—he’s found the net in his last three league games and four consecutive matches in all competitions, including a goal in the FA Youth Cup.
Although Lehane hasn’t yet featured for the first team, Postecoglou has shown he’s unafraid to give young players a chance, and let’s not forget, Lankshear himself isn’t exactly a seasoned first-team player either.
If last season’s top scorer for the Under-21s is determined to secure a loan move before the February 3 deadline, Postecoglou could turn to Lehane as a backup striker for Richarlison, paving the way for Lankshear’s departure.
Any decision would likely be short-term, as once Solanke returns from injury, he’ll reclaim his spot in the starting lineup, with Richarlison resuming his role as backup striker.
This could be a win-win for all involved, giving both Lankshear and Lehane the opportunity to gain valuable first-team experience, while allowing Tottenham to navigate their current striker situation.
