“Liverpool Reject Blockbuster £70m Offer for Darwin Núñez”

“Liverpool Snub Massive £70m Bid for Darwin Núñez”

Reports suggest that Liverpool have turned down an initial £70m bid for Darwin Núñez, reportedly made by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The Uruguayan forward joined Liverpool from Benfica in July 2022 for a club-record fee of £85 million. At the time, Núñez was regarded as one of Europe’s most prolific young strikers, having scored 48 goals in 85 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese club.

Núñez’s adjustment to Premier League football has been anything but smooth. After making a strong start with a goal and an assist on his league debut, he was sent off in his very next game—a moment that seemed to define the inconsistency of his time at Anfield so far.

Despite this, there have been flashes of the immense potential that prompted Liverpool to break their transfer record for him. Premier League all-time leading scorer Alan Shearer has openly backed Núñez, describing him as an “unbelievable talent,” even if his finishing remains a work in progress.

Under Arne Slot, Darwin Núñez appears to be less integral to Liverpool’s plans than he was under Jürgen Klopp. After scoring nine league goals in his debut season and improving slightly with 11 in his second, the 25-year-old has struggled to find consistency under his new manager, netting just twice in the Premier League this term. His performances have drawn criticism, with club legend Robbie Fowler recently voicing his frustration over the striker’s form.

Amid growing speculation about Darwin Núñez’s future at Liverpool, fresh reports suggest a new bid has been made for the striker. According to Anfield Watch, several Saudi clubs, including Al-Hilal, are keen on signing the 25-year-old. Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus is reportedly eyeing Núñez as a potential replacement for Neymar.

The report indicates that Liverpool have rejected a verbal offer of around £70m from Al-Hilal. However, with the Reds valuing Núñez closer to the £85m mark, a £15m increase could be enough to seal the deal.

With Núñez struggling for consistency and appearing to be on the fringes of Arne Slot’s plans, Liverpool’s decision to reject a £70m bid has left some fans baffled.

One supporter voiced their frustration online, saying: “Can’t get my head around why we would turn down £70m for Núñez if a club has actually bid that.”

Another echoed the sentiment: “Absolutely – jeez, I thought getting £40m might be a push. It’s ridiculous that we could get that type of fee.”

A third fan was even more critical, stating: “If Liverpool really have rejected £70m for Núñez, whoever said no needs the sack. How can you possibly turn down breaking even for him, who contributes nothing?”

Another supporter summed up the frustration, saying: “Rejecting £70m for Núñez is a stupid decision…”
