“Robbie Fowler Ignites Outrage with Bold ‘Unemployed’ Comment Before Liverpool vs. Accrington Stanley”
“Robbie Fowler Sparks Controversy with Shocking ‘Unemployed’ Remark Ahead of Liverpool vs. Accrington Stanley”
The ex-Liverpool striker joined ITV’s broadcast team for coverage of the FA Cup clash.
Robbie Fowler sparked outrage among fans with a controversial comment ahead of Liverpool’s third-round FA Cup clash against Accrington Stanley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The 49-year-old former Liverpool striker appeared on ITV’s broadcast team alongside Karen Carney and Mark Pougatch, where he made the remark while discussing Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez, stating that the player “has got to improve.”
Fowler commented on ITV, “For me, the more I watch him, the more I feel he’s not a Liverpool player,” when discussing Núñez.
“People might criticize me for saying this,” Fowler continued.
“You don’t sign or bring in a player just because he works hard. You need to come in and score goals. I know he’s a fan favorite for his effort, but wearing a Liverpool shirt demands better performances and higher standards.”
“I don’t think he’s quick enough in his decision-making when it comes to finishing,” Fowler added.
“He’s fast across the ground, but as a striker, your speed of thought needs to be quicker than anything else.
“When he has time to think, he seems to struggle. Instinctively, he’s sometimes better, but even then, you’d expect a bit more. His awareness as a striker—knowing where to be and how to finish—has to improve.”
Karen Carney, 37, jokingly suggested that Liverpool should consider having Fowler work with Núñez, given his status as the club’s seventh all-time leading scorer with 183 goals in 369 appearances.
However, Fowler’s response left fans outraged.
“No… I’m one of those unemployed Scousers; you don’t get many of us, do you?” Fowler quipped.
Fans on X were quick to criticize the bizarre and controversial remark.
One fan wrote, “Robbie Fowler jokes he’s an unemployed Scouser… while working for ITV. Idiot.”
Another added, “Fowler can f**k off with the unemployment joke.”
A third questioned, “Wtf was that from Robbie Fowler?”
A fourth criticized, “Robbie Fowler making an unemployment joke at Liverpool’s expense. Disgraceful.”
