“Spurs Issue Vital Update on Rodrigo Bentancur Following Alarming Injury Against Liverpool”

“Spurs Give Crucial Update on Rodrigo Bentancur After Stretchered-Off Injury Against Liverpool”

Rodrigo Bentancur, the Spurs midfielder, was carried off on a stretcher during the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Spurs have shared an update on Rodrigo Bentancur’s condition following his concerning injury during the match against Liverpool.

The midfielder was stretchered off in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final after attempting a diving header from a corner.

Pedro Pedro quickly flagged the referee and called for medical assistance. Bentancur received prolonged treatment on the field before being carried off to the tunnel, with a 10-minute delay causing a significant increase in stoppage time.

Sky Sports cameras quickly cut away from the incident, and Rodrigo Bentancur was subsequently replaced by Brennan Johnson.

At half-time, the broadcaster provided an update on Rodrigo Bentancur’s condition. Mark Chapman informed viewers: “The latest we have on Bentancur after that awful-looking injury in the first half is that when he was stretchered off, the doctors accompanied him to the dressing room, and he is still in there with the doctors. That is the only update that we have.”

Shortly after, Spurs delivered a positive update on the midfielder, confirming that he is conscious and communicating.

The club shared on X: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking, and will go to hospital for further checks.”

Rodrigo Bentancur had only recently returned to action after serving a seven-match ban handed to him in November for using a racial slur about Spurs captain Heung-Min Son during an interview with Argentine television station Canal 10.

In the interview, Bentancur reportedly said, “They all look more or less the same,” referring to Son and his cousins.

Following the incident, the former Juventus midfielder issued a public apology on his Instagram page and also personally apologized to Son.

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the extent of Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury, with updates expected to come through the club’s official channels.

Speaking about the incident in his post-match press conference, Ange Postecoglou said: “I don’t want to speculate. It was some sort of head injury. It was bad enough for his teammates to worry about him.”

Bentancur joined Spurs in January 2022 in a deal worth up to £21.5 million, including add-ons. Arriving alongside Dejan Kulusevski, the Uruguayan midfielder has since made 86 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.
