“Tottenham Eye Ambitious Move to Sign ‘Outstanding’ England International”
“Tottenham Set Their Sights on Signing ‘Outstanding’ England International”
Tottenham are reportedly considering a move to sign Sam Johnstone from Wolves this month after he was informed he can leave the club, according to Graeme Bailey.
The club is currently facing a significant defensive crisis, with manager Ange Postecoglou unable to rely on first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defenders Cristian Romero, Micky Van de Ven, Ben Davies, and Destiny Udogie, who has just been sidelined for up to ten weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The goalkeeper position has become a significant concern for Tottenham, as Fraser Forster has struggled with form since stepping in as the number one. As a result, Spurs may turn to the transfer market to bolster the position for the remainder of the season.
Tottenham Set Their Sights on Sam Johnstone.
Sam Johnstone joined Wolves in the summer for £10m from Crystal Palace, with Gary O’Neil aiming to strengthen the goalkeeper position as José Sá was set for a move to Saudi Arabia. However, that transfer never happened. Despite starting the season as the first-choice keeper, an injury and a few poor performances saw Sá regain the number one spot. After O’Neil’s sacking, new manager Vitor Pereira has chosen Sá in all three matches he’s managed, leaving Johnstone on the bench.
Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed that the 31-year-old goalkeeper is allowed to leave Molineux during the January transfer window, and Tottenham are now considering a move to bring him to north London.

One potential challenge for Spurs in pursuing a deal for Sam Johnstone is that, despite being described as “outstanding” in the past, he clearly isn’t keen on playing as a number two at this point in his career. Johnstone has actively sought to move on at the earliest opportunity twice in the last six months, which could influence his decision regarding a potential transfer.
Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that Guglielmo Vicario is his number one goalkeeper, and once he recovers from his ankle injury, he will return to the starting lineup. The manager also confirmed after Vicario’s injury that he wouldn’t be seeking a new goalkeeper in the market. However, recent poor form may have altered that stance, and it remains uncertain whether a deal for Sam Johnstone would be feasible.
