“Trent Alexander-Arnold sets two crucial demands for Liverpool to reject Real Madrid’s advances and seal a new contract.”

“Trent Alexander-Arnold has two key demands from Liverpool to turn down Real Madrid’s interest and commit to a new contract”

Alexander-Arnold’s contract expires in June, with strong interest from Real Madrid.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly set two conditions for Liverpool to reject a potential move to Real Madrid this summer.

The 26-year-old’s contract expires in the summer, making his future one of the major topics of discussion during the January transfer window.

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Liverpool turned down a £20 million bid from Real Madrid for Alexander-Arnold on New Year’s Eve, with the Champions League holders eager to secure his signature ahead of schedule.

Such a fee would fall well short of what Liverpool would expect for the right-back if he were under a long-term contract. The mere fact that Real Madrid made an offer—especially considering they can agree to a pre-contract for a summer move—highlights just how determined Los Blancos are to secure the deal ahead of time.

The Liverpool Echo reported in December that Alexander-Arnold has not shown any indication of wanting to leave Anfield, and it seems Liverpool have not given up on persuading him to stay.

According to Ben Jacobs, Alexander-Arnold has set two conditions for Anfield bosses if they hope to secure his contract extension.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he explained: “I’ve heard that while Trent isn’t open to a mid-season move, what he does want from Liverpool—if he agrees to an extension—is a minimum three-year contract. Additionally, in the long term, he wants to become the club’s captain.”

“So, keep an eye on whether talks involving Virgil van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are connected. If Trent is informed he’ll be the long-term captain, could that affect Van Dijk’s situation?

“However, at this stage, it seems Liverpool are more confident that Van Dijk and Salah will stay, while Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain.”

The Athletic reported last month that Liverpool has presented new contract offers to the out-of-contract trio of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah.

However, speaking after Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham, Salah—currently the Premier League’s top scorer with 17 goals and 13 assists—wasn’t particularly forthcoming about his future.

He told Sky Sports: “We are far away from that [agreeing on a new contract].”

“But again, I don’t want to put anything in the media and have people start saying things. But nothing [has] really moved, and right now I’m focused on the team.”

Meanwhile, Van Dijk has declined to comment on speculation regarding his contract talks. However, David Ornstein reports that the prevailing sentiment around Anfield is that both he and Salah are expected to eventually sign new deals.
