After three years at Liverpool, Darwin Núñez’s future with the club looks uncertain. Reports indicate that the Reds are willing to part ways with the Uruguayan forward in January, with a potential replacement already lined up.
Signed from Benfica in 2022 for £85m, Darwin Núñez has struggled to live up to expectations and has fallen out of favor under manager Arne Slot. Despite a promising start to the season, he was benched in favor of Diogo Jota after his return from injury and now finds himself behind Luis Díaz in the starting lineup.
Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that Liverpool are open to AC Milan’s offer for Núñez, which includes a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer. Slot is reportedly unimpressed with Núñez’s performances in both training and matches, adding fuel to the rumors of his departure.
If Núñez leaves, Liverpool have earmarked Inter Milan’s Marcus Thuram as his potential replacement. With a €85m (£70.5m) release clause, Thuram is seen as a more affordable option than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, whose valuation could stretch Liverpool’s budget.
Although Inter Milan are willing to negotiate a deal near Thuram’s release clause, it’s unlikely that either Núñez or Thuram will move in January, with a summer transfer being the more probable outcome for both players.
