“Fans Reeling from Controversial Liverpool Penalty Decision That Cost Them Against Fulham”

Liverpool were refused a penalty during their Premier League match against Fulham at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool fans were left shocked by a penalty decision that went against them in their home clash with Fulham on Saturday.

The league leaders were frustrated early in the match after Issa Diop and Andreas Pereira made reckless tackles on Andy Robertson and Ryan Gravenberch.

Pereira then put Marco Silva’s side ahead with a spectacular acrobatic finish at the far post, and shortly after, Robertson was shown a red card for fouling Harry Wilson, who had seized on a poor touch from the Scotland captain.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Liverpool equalized through the in-form Cody Gakpo right after half-time. However, the Reds were left frustrated, believing they should have been awarded a penalty just minutes later.

As Gakpo cut in from the left, Joe Gomez made a quick underlapping run but was taken down completely by Kenny Tete. The former Lyon right-back seemed to be trying to block Gakpo’s shot but ended up crashing into Gomez in a forceful collision.

Gomez had to be substituted and replaced by Timothy Castagne due to the impact, but Liverpool fans were enraged that VAR did not award a penalty after the referee dismissed their initial appeals.

One fan expressed: “I expect those in charge of VAR to be held accountable for the utter mess Liverpool are going through. Fulham should be down to ten men and a penalty should have been awarded.”

Another fan wrote: “Is VAR on strike today??? That looked like a clear Liverpool penalty.”

A third vented: “This referee is a complete disgrace. Another Liverpool player taken out!!! How is that not a penalty?”

A fourth remarked: “Stonewall penalty, but it’s Liverpool.”

Finally, one person questioned the decision, saying: “How’s that not a penalty… it’s a rugby challenge.”

The penalty incident became even more pivotal when, with 15 minutes remaining, substitute Rodrigo Munoz put Fulham back in the lead, finishing off a second brilliant assist from left-back Antonee Robinson.

It seemed like Liverpool were on course for their first defeat since the loss to Nottingham Forest, but Diogo Jota, making his return, scored a late equalizer for Arne Slot’s side.
