“Erik ten Hag eyes stunning Champions League return as former Man Utd boss plots managerial comeback”
“Erik ten Hag poised for Champions League comeback as ex-Man Utd boss eyes managerial return”
Erik ten Hag is reportedly being considered for a managerial return after departing Manchester United in October.
Erik ten Hag is reportedly on the radar for a quick return to management following his dismissal from Manchester United in October.
The Dutchman was sacked with United languishing in 14th place, enduring their worst-ever start to a Premier League season after nine matches. A loss to West Ham marked the end of Ten Hag’s tenure, paving the way for Ruud van Nistelrooy to step in as interim manager before Ruben Amorim was appointed as the club’s permanent boss.
Despite his struggles this season, the 54-year-old left United with a 55% win rate, having claimed both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his time in charge.
However, while enjoying a break from management and spending time watching football in his native Netherlands, the former Ajax boss may be gearing up for an earlier-than-anticipated return to the dugout.
According to Patrick Berger of Sky Germany, Erik ten Hag has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Marco Rose at RB Leipzig. Rose finds himself under mounting pressure following a run of six games without a win. While Leipzig sits fourth in the Bundesliga, their Champions League campaign has been dismal, languishing in 34th place with no wins in five matches.
The situation worsened after a 5-1 thrashing by VfL Wolfsburg over the weekend, extending their winless streak since October 29, when they defeated St. Pauli in the DFB Pokal second round.
With a crucial round of 16 clash against Eintracht Frankfurt looming, Rose’s future hangs in the balance, and Leipzig has already begun exploring potential successors.
Roger Schmidt has also emerged as a key target for RB Leipzig. The 57-year-old has a strong connection to the Red Bull football network, having previously managed sister club Red Bull Salzburg, as well as Bayer Leverkusen between 2014 and 2017.
Currently out of work after being sacked by Benfica in August, Schmidt is an attractive option for Leipzig. However, it’s reported that he is reluctant to take on a managerial role mid-season and would prefer to wait until the summer to consider his next move.
This could pave the way for Erik ten Hag’s return to management. The Dutchman brings valuable experience from his time coaching in Germany, where he managed Bayern Munich’s second team during Pep Guardiola’s tenure as first-team manager.
