Dominik Szoboszlai: “We’ve conquered another hurdle, but this is just the beginning – the drive to push forward never stops.”
Dominik Szoboszlai: “We’ve overcome another challenge, but the journey doesn’t stop here – we must keep pushing forward.”
Dominik Szoboszlai praised Liverpool’s resilient response to adversity after they came from behind to secure a 3-2 win at Southampton on Sunday.
The Hungary captain had given the Reds the lead in the first half of the Premier League clash at St Mary’s, capitalizing on an error from the opposition to score with a curling shot from the edge of the box.
However, Southampton fought back to take a 2-1 lead by the 56th minute, with goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes threatening to derail Liverpool’s bid to extend their lead at the top of the table.
But under Arne Slot, the Reds showed great determination, as Mohamed Salah equalized before converting a penalty to seal the comeback and the three points.
On his assessment of the afternoon overall…
“We’re just happy to get the three points. It was a tough match. We knew they’d try to play out from the back and take some risks. But we came here to win, and that’s exactly what we did.”
On his goal and how it resulted from Liverpool’s pressure on the ball…
“That was part of our plan. We knew they wanted to build from the back and that they’re good at it, so we had to press them effectively. Everyone did their part; when one player presses, the others follow. That’s how we got them under pressure, and they couldn’t clear the ball. They passed it to me, and I was able to finish.”
On how the Reds regained control after going 2-1 down in the second half…
“Of course, we weren’t playing against nobody – they’re a very good team, and they scored two goals. The key question is: how do you respond after conceding two? I think we showed today, once again, that even when we’re behind, we can still win games.”
On Salah’s vital contributions and his importance to the team…
“He’s shown it for the past eight years. He does it almost every season, if not every season. I’m just happy to play alongside him, and I think everyone appreciates that he’s still here, giving his all in every match. It’s not just the runs he makes; it’s the goals, the assists, and the way he works for the team. Everyone is really happy with him.”
On the mindset of the squad after going eight points clear at the top…
“Last year, when I first arrived, I talked too much about ‘what if’ scenarios. Now, I just focus on one game at a time. We’re eight points clear at the top, but as I’ve said before, the season is still long. We just need to keep focusing on ourselves and not worry about what the others are doing.”
